Dubai has won the bid to hold the international exhibition World Expo in 2020. Approximately $9b is expected to be spent to fund development for the venue of the event and in Dubai’s infrastructure to cope with the high influx of tourists expected for that year. Dubai had approximately 10m visitors in 2012, this number is expected to reach 25m in 2020.
The theme of the event is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” and has three subthemes, namely:
Sustainability - lasting sources of energy and water
Mobility - smart systems of logistics and transportation
Opportunity - new paths to economic development
Developments are expected to take part in sectors related to the above subtheme such as for example that of Sustainability, where for 50% of the power demands of the event are planned to be generated through onsite renewable sources.
